This village is about 22 kilometers away from Santa Rosa de Quives. It sits high up in the Andes mountains, more than 2,300 meters (about 7,500 feet) above sea level. Arahuay is nestled in a small valley. The area around the town is special because it has ancient ruins from before the Inca Empire. It also has several beautiful blue lagoons.
Laptops for Learning
Arahuay is famous for being the first place in Peru where a special project called "One Laptop Per Child" (OLPC) began. This project started in 2007. Its goal was to give every child their own laptop for school.
In May 2007, the project started testing the "XO laptop" with 60 school children in Arahuay. This village was chosen because it is a remote agricultural community in the Andes mountains. The project aimed to see how these laptops could help children learn and connect to the world. It was an important step in bringing technology to students in rural areas.
