Geography
Arbutus is located at 39°14′40″N 76°41′38″W / 39.24444°N 76.69389°W. The total area of Arbutus is about 6.5 square miles (16.9 square kilometers), and it's all land.
A stream called Herbert Run flows through Arbutus. It splits into two parts: Herbert Run East and Herbert Run West.
History
The area known as Relay was once a very important train station for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O). This is where trains coming from Baltimore and Washington, D.C., would join up before heading west. It was also a key spot for the railroad's telegraph system, which was the first big one in the country.
A famous bridge called the Thomas Viaduct is also in Relay. This bridge is still used today by CSX Transportation, which took over the B&O railroad in 1987.
