History of Arcade
Arcade became an official city in 1909. The city got its name from early plans to build a schoolhouse that would have an "arcade" style. An arcade is a series of arches, often seen in buildings.
Geography and Location
Arcade is in the southern part of Jackson County. It is located at coordinates 34.076951 degrees North and -83.551147 degrees West. The city of Jefferson, which is the main city of Jackson County, borders Arcade to the north.
Roads and Travel
U.S. Route 129 runs through the southern side of Arcade. This road can take you about 7 miles (11 km) northwest to Interstate 85 near Jefferson. If you head southeast on U.S. Route 129, you'll reach Athens in about 15 miles (24 km). Another road, Georgia State Route 82, goes south from Arcade for about 14 miles (23 km) to Winder.
