Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Arcadia Productions is the biggest English-speaking theatre company in Italy. It started in 1991 as 'La Nuova Arcadia'. In 2000, it changed its name to Arcadia Productions s.a.s. and became a different kind of company. Graham Spicer and Carlo Orlandi are the co-directors of Arcadia. Most of their shows are for schools, making up 97% of their audience. Arcadia is part of a special network called Teatro per Ragazzi (Children's Theatre) in the Lombardy region. Currently, Arcadia has 9 different shows they perform. They usually add a new show at the start of most seasons.

The company's main offices are in Milan. This is where all their new shows are first performed. Arcadia also stays in Milan for 10 weeks each season. Even though they mostly travel, Arcadia has two main places in Milan:

  • The Teatro San Carlo, which has 490 seats. It is across from Santa Maria delle Grazie, where Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting 'The Last Supper' is.
  • The Teatro La Creta, which has 400 seats. It is on the west side of the city.

Arcadia travels to many important cities and theatres in northern and central Italy. These cities include Turin, Bergamo, Brescia, Verona, Vicenza, Padua, Udine, Pordenone, Firenze, Bologna, Imperia, Rome, Lecco, Monza, and Novara. Some of the old, famous theatres they perform in are in Novara, Cremona, and the Teatro Fraschini in Pavia.
