History of Archer Lodge
Early Beginnings and the Masonic Lodge
A group called the Archer Masonic Lodge (No. 157) was started in 1854. It was located in a place then known as Creachville. In 1865, during the Civil War, the lodge building was destroyed by General William T. Sherman's army. After the war, the lodge got a new official paper (called a charter). Because of a small mistake, it was then known as Archer Lodge No. 165.
Post Offices and Growth
Over the years, Archer Lodge has had different post offices. The first one was called "Creachville" from 1851 to 1866. Then came "Archer Lodge" (1877–1896), and later just "Archer" (1896–1912). After 1912, mail for the area came from nearby Clayton or Wendell.
Becoming a Town
On November 3, 2009, the people living in Archer Lodge voted to officially become a town. The vote was confirmed one week later. Archer Lodge is one of the fastest growing areas in Johnston County. A new school, Archer Lodge Middle School, opened in 2007. A new high school, Corinth Holders High School, opened in 2010. It is located just outside the town.
Where is Archer Lodge?
Archer Lodge is in the northern part of Johnston County. It is about 7 miles (11 km) south of Wendell. It is also about 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Clayton. The town covers an area of about 9.08 square miles (23.53 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a very small amount of water. The town is located within the Neuse River watershed. This means that water from the area flows into the Neuse River.

Arts and Culture in Archer Lodge
Local Landmarks
One of the most important places in Archer Lodge is the C.E. Barnes Store. This store has been open for a very long time, for 96 years! In 2023, its name was changed to the Archer Lodge Express. The old Masonic Lodge used to be right next door to this store.
Historic Buildings
There is also a building that used to be a boarding house for teachers at the Archer Lodge School. It is still standing today. It is next to the local ball park and is now a private home.
Community Church
White Oak Baptist Church is an important part of the community. It stands in the center of Archer Lodge. The church used to be called the Archer Lodge Missionary Baptist Church. It changed its name when it moved to its current spot, which is surrounded by white oak trees.
