Ardennes (forest) facts for kids
The Ardennes (also known as the Ardennes Forest) is a beautiful area with rolling hills and thick forests. It stretches across parts of three countries: Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. You can find it in eastern Wallonia in Belgium, northern Luxembourg (a region called the Oesling), and bordering France in the Ardennes (department).
Exploring the Ardennes Landscape
The Ardennes is mostly made up of hills that can reach nearly 700 meters (about 2,300 feet) above sea level. This region is famous for its many forests and has very few towns or cities. It's a great place to explore nature!
Rocks and Rivers of the Ardennes
The ground in the Ardennes is mainly made of a type of rock called slate. This area borders the Eifel region in Germany to the east. A very important river flowing through the Ardennes is the Meuse. This river helps shape the landscape and provides water for the region.
