From Medicine to Fashion
Arefeh Mansouri was born in Tehran, Iran, on November 8, 1980. When she was 16, she moved to Canada. As a child, she loved to paint and was very good at it.
At first, Mansouri planned to become a doctor. She studied biology at Concordia University. However, her passion for art and design led her to change her path. She decided to study fashion at LaSalle College in Montreal. Later, in 2016, she also completed a special program at Harvard University.
A Career in High Fashion
Mansouri started her career by creating a line of women's clothing that was ready to wear. Soon, her talent was noticed, and she was offered a job in Milan, Italy, as the main designer for an Italian clothing company.
Designing for the Stars
In 2007, Mansouri returned to the United States and launched a new clothing line. This time, she focused on creating one-of-a-kind wedding dresses and evening gowns. These are often called "couture" designs.
She also began designing costumes for Hollywood movies. Because of her work in film, she is a member of two important groups: The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and the Costume Designers Guild.
In 2009, she worked with Entertainment Weekly magazine to design special bags for a party before the Emmy Awards.
Art-Inspired Creations
Mansouri often gets ideas for her designs from art. In 2011, she created a unique dress inspired by a sculpture called "The Tulip" by artist Karel Appel.
In 2012, she worked with a photographer to recreate a famous painting called Flaming June by Sir Frederic Leighton. The photograph was displayed in The Parthenon, an art museum in Nashville, Tennessee.
Opening Her Own Stores
In 2013, Mansouri opened her very own store called "AREFEH" in the fancy shopping area of Palm Beach, Florida. Three years later, in 2016, she moved her store to Coral Gables, near Miami.
