How Aristes Got Its Name
Around the year 1800, a building called the Red Tavern was built. It was located along an old road known as the Old Reading Road. This road connected the towns of Catawissa and Reading.
In 1865, the person who owned the Red Tavern decided to create a new village. They named this new village "Montana." However, the name didn't stick for long. When a post office was opened in the village in 1897, the name was changed to "Aristes." This name is a shorter version of "Aristides," who was a famous Greek statesman.
