Arminto is a small, unincorporated community in the northwestern part of Natrona County, Wyoming, United States. It is not an official town with its own local government. Arminto is located along local roads, west of the city of Casper. Casper is the main city and county seat for Natrona County. Arminto sits at an elevation of about 6,053 feet (1,845 meters) above sea level.
History of Arminto
Arminto began as a stop along the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad line. The community was named after Manuel Armenta. He was the person who started the nearby Jack Pot Ranch.
In 1915, the people of Arminto voted to become an officially incorporated town. This was important because, at that time, only incorporated towns in Wyoming could sell certain goods.
Even though Arminto is now an unincorporated community again, it once had its own post office. This post office served the area until it closed down in 1964.
The Big Horn Hotel
A famous building called the Big Horn Hotel was moved to Arminto in 1913. It was originally located in Wolton. The hotel was moved when the railroad finally reached Arminto.
The Big Horn Hotel was recognized as an important historical place in 1978. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Sadly, the hotel was destroyed by a fire in 1985.
Climate in Arminto
Arminto has a type of weather known as a semi-arid climate. This means the area is usually dry, but it does get some rain. This climate is often shown as "BSk" on special climate maps.
