Armour is a small city located in Douglas County, South Dakota, in the United States. It's also the main town, or county seat, of Douglas County. In 2020, about 698 people lived there.

History of Armour

Armour was started in 1885. The city got its name from Philip Danforth Armour. He was the person who founded a big company called Armour and Company, which processed meat.

Many people think Armour had a meat processing plant, but it didn't! The town was named after Mr. Armour because he was also in charge of the railroad that ran through Armour. He even gave a bell to the local church.

The sports teams at Armour High School used to be called the "Packers," which was a nod to the famous meat company. Today, the high school teams play together with Tripp-Delmont High School and are known as the "Armour/Tripp-Delmont Nighthawks."
