History of Arno
Arno has an interesting past, even though it's a small community.
When Was Arno Founded?
Arno was first established around 1857. At that time, it was located in Taney County, Missouri. Later, in 1864, the area where Arno is located became part of Douglas County.
Arno as a County Seat
For a short time, Arno was actually the most important town in Douglas County! In 1869, it became the temporary county seat. This meant it was the center of government for Douglas County, taking over from a place called Vera Cruz. However, this didn't last long. By 1870, the nearby town of Ava became the permanent county seat.
The Post Office in Arno
Arno also had its own post office for many years. It first operated from 1857 to 1863 when Arno was still in Taney County. Then, it reopened in 1867 in Douglas County and continued to serve the community until 1933.
Population of Arno
In 1925, Arno was a very small community. Records show that only 31 people lived there at that time.
