Cowskin Creek is a small stream (or river) located in the state of Missouri, in the United States. It flows through the northwestern part of Douglas County and a tiny bit of southeastern Webster County.
Where Cowskin Creek Flows
Cowskin Creek starts in southeastern Webster County, not far from a place called Cedar Gap. The place where a river starts is called its headwaters. From there, it flows and eventually joins another stream called Beaver Creek. This meeting point is located just west of the Arno store.
You can find bridges crossing Cowskin Creek where two important roads meet: Missouri Route 14 and Missouri Route K.
How Cowskin Creek Got Its Name
Have you ever wondered how places get their names? Sometimes, they have interesting stories! For Cowskin Creek, there's a traditional story about how it got its unique name.
Long ago, when pioneers (early settlers) were moving into the area, there was a citizen who lived near this creek. The story says that this pioneer would skin cows that had died from sickness right by the creek. This unusual practice is believed to be how the creek got its name, "Cowskin Creek."
