What Makes Up the Arrondissement?

Cantons

In France, a "canton" is another type of administrative division. After some changes, cantons are no longer just small parts of arrondissements. This means a single canton can have towns (called communes) that belong to different arrondissements.

The Sainte-Menehould arrondissement has only one canton that is partly within its borders: the canton of Argonne Suippe et Vesle. Some of the towns in this canton are in the Châlons-en-Champagne arrondissement, and others are in the Sainte-Menehould arrondissement.

Communes

An arrondissement is made up of many smaller towns or villages, which are called communes in France. The Sainte-Menehould arrondissement has 67 communes.
