The Châlons-en-Champagne arrondissement is located in the middle of the Marne department. It shares borders with several other areas. To the north, it touches the Reims arrondissement and a small part of the Ardennes department.
To the northeast, it borders the Sainte-Menehould arrondissement. The Vitry-le-François arrondissement is to its southeast and south. Finally, to the west, it meets the Épernay arrondissement.
This arrondissement is the second largest in the Marne department by size. It covers an area of about 1,778.3 square kilometers (686.6 square miles).
