Arrondissements of the Marne department facts for kids
The Marne department in France has 5 special areas called arrondissements. Think of an arrondissement like a big district or a borough. These areas help organize the department. Each arrondissement has a main city, which is like its capital. This capital city is called a subprefecture. If the main capital city of the whole department is inside an arrondissement, then that city acts as both the department's capital and the arrondissement's capital. Arrondissements are then split into smaller areas called communes, which are like towns or villages.

What are Arrondissements?
France is divided into large areas called departments. To help manage these departments, they are further split into smaller parts known as arrondissements. You can think of an arrondissement as a specific district or section within a department.
Each arrondissement has a main city that serves as its capital. This capital city is called a subprefecture. If the main capital city of the entire department is located within one of these arrondissements, then that city acts as the capital for both the department and its arrondissement.
Arrondissements are made up of even smaller areas called communes. Communes are like individual towns or villages.
