History of Saverne Arrondissement
In 2015, the borders of the Saverne arrondissement were changed. Some towns, called communes, that used to be in the Strasbourg-Campagne arrondissement became part of Saverne. At the same time, some communes that were in Saverne moved to other nearby arrondissements, like Haguenau-Wissembourg and Molsheim.
Geography of Saverne Arrondissement
The Saverne arrondissement is located in the western part of the Bas-Rhin department. It shares its borders with several other arrondissements:
- To the northeast, it borders the Haguenau-Wissembourg arrondissement.
- To the southeast, it borders the Strasbourg arrondissement.
- To the south, it borders the Molsheim arrondissement.
The Moselle department is to its southwest, west, and north.
The Saverne arrondissement covers an area of about 1,244 square kilometers (480 square miles). In 2014, it had a population of 129,272 people. This means that about 104 people live in each square kilometer of the area.
