History of Strasbourg Arrondissement
The Arrondissement of Strasbourg was created in 2015. It was formed by joining two older areas. These were the former arrondissement of Strasbourg-Ville (Strasbourg City) and part of the arrondissement of Strasbourg-Campagne (Strasbourg Countryside).
Where is Strasbourg Arrondissement?
The Arrondissement of Strasbourg is located in the western part of the Bas-Rhin department. It shares borders with several other arrondissements. To the north is Haguenau-Wissembourg. To the south is Sélestat-Erstein. The Molsheim arrondissement is to the southwest. The Saverne arrondissement is to the west. On its eastern side, the arrondissement borders Germany.
This arrondissement is the smallest in the department by size. It covers an area of about 337.6 square kilometers (130.3 square miles). However, it has the most people living in it. In 2014, its population was 484,157. This means it has a population density of about 1,434 people per square kilometer.
