The Arrondissement of Toulon has been around for a long time. It was first created in 1800. This was when the Var department itself was formed.

The Arrondissement of Toulon is located in the southern part of the Var department. It has different areas around it:
- To the north, it borders the Brignoles Arrondissement.
- To the east, it touches the Draguignan Arrondissement.
