Arthur Edmund Coulter (born May 31, 1909 – died October 14, 2000) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He was known as a "defenceman," which means his main job was to protect his team's goal. He played for two famous teams in the NHL: the New York Rangers and the Chicago Black Hawks.

Arthur Coulter was a true champion. He won the Stanley Cup, ice hockey's biggest prize, two times! He helped the Chicago Black Hawks win their very first championship in the 1933–34 season. Later, he led the New York Rangers to another Stanley Cup victory in the 1939–40 season. In 1938, he became the captain of the Rangers, taking over from the legendary player Bill Cook. Arthur Coulter's amazing career was recognized when he was added to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1974.

Arthur Coulter's Achievements

Arthur Coulter had a fantastic career filled with many awards and honors. These show how skilled and important he was to his teams.

  • Stanley Cup Champion: He won the Stanley Cup twice, in 1934 with the Chicago Black Hawks and in 1940 with the New York Rangers.
  • NHL All-Star: He was chosen for the NHL Second All-Star Team as a defenceman four times. This happened in 1935, 1938, 1939, and 1940. Being an All-Star means he was one of the best players in his position.
  • Hockey Hall of Fame: In 1974, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. This is a very special honor for the greatest hockey players of all time.
  • Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame: He is also an honored member of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame.
  • Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame: He was also recognized in the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame for his overall sports achievements.
  • Rangers Great: In a 2009 book called 100 Ranger Greats, Arthur Coulter was ranked as the 30th best player ever for the New York Rangers. This is out of over 900 players who have played for the team!
