Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame and Museum is a special place that celebrates the history of ice hockey in Manitoba. It's like a museum and a "hall of fame" all in one. You can find it in downtown Winnipeg, right inside the Canada Life Centre.

The Hall of Fame started in 1985. That's when the first group of people and teams were honored. Special plaques were put up to remember their amazing achievements. The first group was very large. It included many Manitoba players, coaches, and teams. They were recognized for their success at all levels of hockey. New members were added every year or two until 1993. Since 1995, new members have been added every two years.

Inside the museum, you'll find different areas. The Players Wall is near the main entrance. The Builders Wall is in another corner. Builders are people who helped grow the sport, like team owners or organizers. There's also a Wall of Champions for teams that have been honored. The museum also has a special display for Olympic gold medal winners. You can see cool hockey items in a protected area. The Hall of Fame used to be in the Winnipeg Arena. It moved to the MTS Centre (now the Canada Life Centre) in late 2004. There's also a photo gallery of Hall of Fame members at the Canad Inns Polo Park in Winnipeg.
