Edward Joseph "Spider" Mazur (born July 25, 1929 – died July 3, 1995) was a talented Canadian ice hockey player. He played as a forward, which means he was one of the players whose main job was to score goals. Spider Mazur played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for famous teams like the Montreal Canadiens and the Chicago Black Hawks between 1951 and 1956. He also spent many years playing in other professional hockey leagues from 1948 until he retired in 1966.
Spider Mazur's Hockey Journey
Spider Mazur began his exciting journey in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens in 1951. What's really cool is that he played in the NHL playoffs in 1951, 1952, and 1953 before he even played a single regular season game! He made history by being the first player ever to score four goals in the playoffs before playing a regular season game. Later, Chris Kreider of the New York Rangers broke this record with five playoff goals in 2012.
Mazur also played for the Chicago Black Hawks. He left the NHL after the 1957 season. He officially retired from playing hockey in 1965. A big highlight of his career was winning the Stanley Cup in 1953 with the Montreal Canadiens. He also played for the Victoria Maple Leafs in the Western League.
