Reginald Stewart Abbott, born on February 4, 1930, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played a few games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Montreal Canadiens during the 1952-53 season. Most of his career, from 1950 to 1965, was spent playing in the OHA Senior A League. Reg also represented Canada at the 1965 World Championships.
Reg Abbott's Early Life and Sports
When Reg Abbott was young, growing up in Winnipeg, he was an amazing athlete. He was good at many different sports. He played baseball as a second baseman for the Rosedales team, which won the championship in Manitoba.
Reg was also a very good golfer. He was almost a "scratch golfer," which means he could play a round of golf with a score close to zero over par. He was also a skilled lacrosse player. However, as he got older, he decided to focus mainly on ice hockey.
Reg Abbott's Hockey Journey
Reg Abbott started his professional hockey career with the Victoria Cougars. He played for them for four seasons. During this time, he got the chance to play three games in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played for the famous Montreal Canadiens during the 1952-53 season. In those three games, he did not score any points or get any penalties.
After his time with the Cougars, Reg played for the Windsor Bulldogs in the OHA Senior A League for five seasons. He also played three games in the American Hockey League for the Pittsburgh Hornets. Later in his career, he played a bit for the Winnipeg Maroons and the Clinton Comets before he stopped playing professionally.
In 1965, Reg Abbott joined the Canadian National Team. He played in the World Championships that year, where the Canadian team finished in fourth place.
