Artemisia porteri is a special kind of flowering plant. It's often called Porter's sagebrush, Porter's wormwood, or Porter mugwort. This plant belongs to the aster family, which includes many well-known flowers like daisies.

About Porter's Sagebrush

Porter's sagebrush is a perennial plant. This means it lives for more than two years. It's a small herb or a tiny shrub. It grows in clumps or mats and can reach about 14 centimeters tall. That's about the length of a pen!

What Does It Look Like?

The stems of Porter's sagebrush are covered in a soft, woolly fuzz. Its leaves are silvery and have interesting lobed shapes. The plant also produces bell-shaped flower heads. These flower heads are also woolly and contain small, yellowish disc florets.

Where Does It Grow?

This plant is found only in a specific area. It grows naturally in Wyoming, a state in the United States. You can find it in just a few counties there: Fremont, Johnson, and Natrona Counties. When a plant or animal lives only in one place, we say it is endemic to that area.

Porter's sagebrush likes to grow in the badlands of central Wyoming. It can be found on muddy ground and eroding clay. These areas often have very little other plant life.
