Who Was Arthur Child?

Arthur Child was an ice hockey player from Britain. He was born in Essex, England. He played as a goaltender, also known as a goalie. A goalie's job is to stop the puck from going into their team's net.

Playing Ice Hockey

Art Child played for several teams in the United Kingdom. He was part of the Wembley Lions, Earls Court Rangers, and Wembley Monarchs. His career as a professional player lasted from 1935 to 1940.

The 1936 Winter Olympics

The biggest moment in Art Child's career was being part of the Great Britain national ice hockey team. This team competed in the 1936 Winter Olympics held in Germany. The British team surprised everyone by winning the gold medal!

Art Child was the backup goaltender for the team. This means he was ready to play if the main goalie needed a break or got injured. However, he didn't actually play in any games during the tournament. Back then, only players who played in the games received medals. So, even though he was part of the gold-winning team, Art Child didn't get a gold medal himself.

Joining the Hall of Fame

Even though he didn't play in the Olympic final, Art Child is still remembered for his contributions to British ice hockey. He is a member of the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.
