1936 Winter Olympics facts for kids
The 1936 Winter Olympics, officially called the IV Olympic Winter Games, were held in 1936. They took place in a town called Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Germany. Germany also hosted the 1936 Summer Olympics that same year in Berlin. These games were a big event for the country.
Nations Competing in the Games
A total of 28 countries sent their best athletes to compete in Germany. This was the largest number of nations ever at a Winter Olympics up to that time. Several countries made their first appearance at the Winter Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. These included Australia, Bulgaria, Greece, Liechtenstein, Spain, and Turkey. Other nations like Estonia, Latvia, the Netherlands, and Yugoslavia returned after missing the 1932 Winter Olympics.
