The Return of the Games

After World War II ended, the world slowly started to heal. Many countries had been affected by the war. People were excited for the Olympics to return. It was a sign that things were getting back to normal. The games brought people from different countries together. They competed in a friendly way.

Why St. Moritz Was Chosen

St. Moritz was a good choice for the 1948 games. Switzerland had stayed neutral during World War II. This meant the country was not involved in the fighting. Because of this, St. Moritz had not been damaged by the war. It still had all the sports facilities needed. This made it easier to host the Olympics quickly.

What Happened at the Games

Athletes from many countries came to St. Moritz. They competed in sports like skiing, ice skating, and bobsleigh. The games lasted for about a week and a half. They showed the world that sports could unite people. Even after a big war, athletes could come together.
