Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The 1952 Winter Olympics, officially known as the VI Olympic Winter Games, were held in 1952 in Oslo, Norway. These games were a big event for the city of Oslo and for winter sports around the world.

Nations Competing in the 1952 Winter Olympics

A total of 30 countries sent their best athletes to compete in these Games. This was the largest number of nations to ever participate in the Winter Olympics at that time!

Some countries joined the Winter Olympics for the very first time in 1952. These included New Zealand and Portugal. It was exciting to see new teams join the competition.

Other countries made a comeback. Australia, Germany, and Japan returned to the Winter Olympics after not being able to compete in the 1948 Winter Olympics. However, some countries that competed in 1948, like Korea, Liechtenstein, and Turkey, did not participate in 1952.
