1932 Winter Olympics facts for kids
The 1932 Winter Olympics, also known as the III Olympic Winter Games, were a big sports event held in 1932. They took place in Lake Placid, New York, in the United States. The games officially began on February 4, 1932.
Originally, these Winter Olympics were planned for Big Pines, California. However, there wasn't enough snow there! Because of the poor snow conditions, the games had to be moved. Lake Placid was chosen instead, and it turned out to be a great spot for winter sports.

About the 1932 Winter Olympics

Where Were the Games Held?
The games were held in Lake Placid, a village in New York State. Lake Placid is famous for its beautiful mountains and lakes. It's a perfect place for winter activities like skiing and ice skating.
Why Lake Placid Was Chosen
Lake Placid already had some of the facilities needed for the games. It had a bobsled run and areas suitable for skiing and skating. When Big Pines couldn't host due to lack of snow, Lake Placid stepped up. This made it possible for the games to go on as planned.
