Early Medical Practice

Arthur Leared first worked as a doctor in County Wexford. This was until 1851. He then tried to move to India. However, he became unwell and had to return home. In 1852, he started working as a doctor in London. He became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1854. He later became a Fellow in 1871.

Helping During Wartime

During the Crimean War, Dr. Leared helped out. He worked as a doctor at a British hospital. This hospital was in Smyrna. After the war, he visited Palestine. When he returned to London, he worked at several hospitals. These included the Great Northern Hospital. He also taught medicine at a school.

Exploring Distant Lands

Dr. Leared loved to travel and explore. He visited Iceland four times. His first trip was in 1862. His last visit was in 1874. He even wrote a book in Icelandic. It was about a disease common there.

Dr. Leared died at his home in London. This was on October 16, 1879. He was 57 years old. He is buried in Highgate Cemetery.
