Discover Artist Point

Artist Point offers one of the most breathtaking views in Yellowstone. It sits on the south rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. This deep canyon was carved by the Yellowstone River over thousands of years.

Where is it?

This special viewpoint is found in Yellowstone National Park. It is in Park County, Wyoming, in the United States. Artist Point is located to the east-northeast of the famous Yellowstone Falls. These powerful waterfalls are also part of the Yellowstone River.

How it Got its Name

Artist Point got its name in 1883. A man named Frank Jay Haynes named it. He thought that this was the exact spot where a famous painter, Thomas Moran, made his sketches. Moran had painted beautiful pictures of the Yellowstone Falls in 1872.

However, later on, people realized that Moran actually sketched his pictures from the north rim of the canyon. Even though it was a mistake, the name Artist Point stuck. Today, it remains a popular spot for visitors to enjoy the stunning scenery.
