Arturo Berutti facts for kids
Arturo Berutti (born around March 27, 1862, in San Juan, Argentina; died January 3, 1938, in Buenos Aires) was an important Argentinian composer. He wrote classical music and also librettos, which are the words for operas. He is most famous for his opera called Pampa, which he wrote in 1897. This opera told the story of Juan Moreira.
Berutti was one of the most influential opera composers in Argentina during the late 1800s and early 1900s. His music was often inspired by Italian opera. In 1895, he also created an opera called Taras Bulba, based on a famous book by Nikolai Gogol.

Arturo Berutti was born in San Juan, Argentina. There is some uncertainty about his exact birth date, but it was either March 14, 1858, or March 27, 1862. He first studied law in Buenos Aires.
His Musical Journey
In 1884, Berutti won a scholarship because of his great musical talent. This allowed him to travel and study music in Europe. He started his musical education at the Leipzig Conservatory in Germany. There, he learned from famous teachers like Carl Reinecke and Salomon Jadassohn.
Later, he continued his studies in Paris, France, in 1889. By 1890, he was in Milan, Italy. In Italy, he became very interested in Italian opera. In 1892, he wrote his first two classical operas, Vendetta and Evangelina.
Return to Argentina
Berutti returned to his home country, Argentina, in 1896. He wanted to focus on writing his own music, especially operas that told stories from South America. He was a pioneer, meaning he was one of the first to create Argentinian operas.
He also taught music at the Gilardo Gilardi Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires. One of his students was the well-known composer Felipe Boero. Berutti wrote many different kinds of music, including symphony pieces, sonatas, and songs. He also translated a book about music theory by Salomon Jadassohn.
Arturo Berutti passed away on January 3, 1938, in Buenos Aires. He was either 76 or 80 years old.
