Ashikaga Yoshizumi (born January 15, 1481 – died September 6, 1511) was an important leader in Japan's history. He was the 11th shōgun of the Ashikaga shogunate, a powerful military government. He ruled from 1494 to 1508 during a time known as the Muromachi period.
Yoshizumi was the son of Ashikaga Masatomo. His grandfather was Ashikaga Yoshinori, who was the sixth shōgun. When he was a child, his name was Seikō. Later, he was called Yoshitō, and sometimes Yoshitaka, before finally being known as Yoshizumi.

Becoming Shōgun
Yoshizumi was adopted by the 8th shōgun, Ashikaga Yoshimasa. This was a common way for powerful families to choose their heirs.
He became shōgun with the help of a powerful leader named Hosokawa Masamoto. The full title of a shōgun was Sei-i Taishōgun, which means "Great General Who Subdues the Barbarians." This title showed he was the top military leader in Japan.
Losing Power
In 1508, Yoshizumi lost his title as shōgun. The 10th shōgun, Ashikaga Yoshitane, took back the position. Yoshitane had been shōgun before and returned for a second time.
His Sons as Shōguns
Even though Yoshizumi lost his power, his family continued to play a big role. Two of his sons later became shōguns themselves.
- Ashikaga Yoshiharu became the twelfth Muromachi shōgun.
- Ashikaga Yoshihide became the fourteenth shōgun.
