Ashley Madekwe (/məˈdɛkweɪ/; born December 6, 1983) is a British actress. She is known for her roles in popular TV shows. You might recognize her as Bambi in the series Secret Diary of a ... (2008–2010). She also played Ashley Davenport in the exciting drama Revenge (2011–2013) and Tituba in the spooky series Salem (2014–2017). Ashley was even nominated for a special award, the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress, for her acting in the movie County Lines (2019).
Early Life and Education
Ashley Madekwe was born in South London, England. Her family background is mixed, with her father being Nigerian and her mother English. She grew up in South London. When she was 14, she attended The Brit School, which is a famous performing arts school. After that, she went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. There, she earned a degree in acting. While studying, she performed in many plays, including King Henry V and Wuthering Heights.
Acting Career
Ashley Madekwe began her acting career in 1998 with a film called Storm Damage. In 2005, after finishing her studies at RADA, she acted in a play called Prayer Room. She then made guest appearances in several TV shows like Teachers, Doctors, and Casualty.
In 2007, Ashley got a role in the movie Cassandra's Dream, which starred famous actors like Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. She also appeared in a BBC Three drama pilot called West 10 LDN and was in eight episodes of Trexx and Flipside. In 2008, she starred in the comedy film How to Lose Friends & Alienate People.
Ashley made her first big appearance in the United States in 2009. This was for the drama series The Beautiful Life. In 2011, she was cast as Ashley Davenport in the popular ABC drama series Revenge. She was a main character for the first two seasons. After that, she played Tituba in the TV series Salem from 2014 to 2017.
In 2018, Ashley starred in the British film County Lines. For her performance in this movie, she was nominated for a BAFTA award in 2021.
Personal Life
In June 2012, Ashley Madekwe married her long-time boyfriend, who is also a British actor, Iddo Goldberg. In late 2023, the couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy.
