Shanti Ashrama is a special place in California where people go for quiet time and thinking. It's like a peaceful getaway, also called a spiritual retreat. It's located in the Upper San Antonio Valley in Santa Clara County, California, United States. This area is "unincorporated," meaning it's not part of a city or town.
Shanti Ashrama is about 40 miles (64 km) east of downtown San Jose. It is a branch of the Ramakrishna Mission, which is a worldwide spiritual organization.
History of Shanti Ashrama
This peaceful retreat is built on 160 acres (about 65 hectares) of land. The area is covered with oak trees and chaparral plants, which are tough shrubs common in California. It's near Upper San Antonio Valley Road, about 18 miles (29 km) southeast of Mount Hamilton.
The land was given to the Vedanta Society around the year 1900. The Vedanta Society is a group that teaches about spiritual ideas and meditation. The idea was to create a place where people could go to meditate and think deeply.
Today, there is a special cabin at Shanti Ashrama used for meditation. People still visit this quiet spot for annual retreats, where they can focus on their inner peace and spiritual growth.
