Ashton is a small, quiet place located in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. It's a "locality," which means it's a small community or area, not a big town or city.
You can find Ashton on the Canterbury Plains, which are flat lands, south of the town of Ashburton. It sits right on the edge of the Pacific Ocean coastline. The Ashburton River / Hakatere flows into the ocean right next to Ashton, on its southern side.
Other small communities nearby include Huntingdon and Wheatstone to the north. To the southwest, you'll find Waterton. If you cross the Ashburton River / Hakatere, you'll reach Riverside to the northeast.
About the People
Ashton is part of a larger area called the Eiffelton statistical area. This means that when people count how many people live in different places, Ashton is grouped together with Eiffelton.
