Asie Reed Payton (born April 12, 1937 – died May 19, 1997) was an American blues musician. He lived most of his life in Holly Ridge, Mississippi. This area is part of the famous Mississippi Delta.
Asie Payton was born in Washington County, Mississippi. He was a talented singer and played the guitar. Even though he loved music, he earned his living as a farmer.

Asie Payton's Music Journey
Near the end of his life, Asie Payton recorded an album called Worried. This album was released by Fat Possum Records after he passed away. He died from a heart attack.
Music in Films
Asie Payton's music was featured in several films. He appeared and performed in a documentary called You See Me Laughin': The Last of the Hill Country Bluesmen.
One of his songs, "I Love You," from the Worried album, was used in the closing credits of the 2002 film The Badge. Another song by Payton, "Back to the Bridge," was on the Big Bad Love soundtrack.
Later Recordings and Recognition
Payton's song "Back to the Bridge" was also included on a collection album. This album was called The Rough Guide to Delta Blues (2002). His music was even mentioned in a novel! The book Bring On The Night (2010) by Jeri Smith-Ready referenced his song.
Where Asie Payton is Buried
Asie Payton and his wife, Mary, are buried in Holly Ridge Cemetery. This is the same cemetery where another famous blues musician, Charley Patton, is also buried.
