Asociación de Mujeres en las Artes Visuales facts for kids
MAV (which stands for Mujeres en las Artes Visuales, meaning "Women in Visual Arts") is a special group in Spain. It has over 500 women who work in art, like painters, sculptors, and photographers. MAV helps these women get noticed and find more chances to show their amazing art. It also works to make things fairer for women in the art world. This group started on May 9, 2009, in Madrid at a place called La Casa Encendida. It was created by a team of modern female artists, with a professor and art expert named Rocio de la Villa leading the way.
What MAV Aims to Do
MAV works hard to help women get more involved in culture and art. They want to stop unfair treatment against women, following a special law in Spain that protects people from gender violence.
Understanding the Art World
MAV has a special part called the Observatorio. This group collects facts and numbers to show what it's like for women working in visual arts across Spain. They want to understand the situation clearly.
Making Art Fair for Women
MAV knows that not many women are in charge in the art world. So, they try to make sure there are more Spanish women in all parts of modern art. This includes artists, gallery owners, researchers, museum directors, and more. MAV also talks to big art places in Spain to help them create rules for equal opportunities for everyone.
Working Together for Change
MAV teams up with other groups of women in culture and contemporary art. Together, they create projects to fix the problem of women not being fully involved in the art system.
Learning and Sharing Information
MAV has a Centre of Documentation. This is like a library or archive where they keep important information. It helps people research the best ways to work and create new art projects that focus on art, gender, and feminism. This center also keeps track of the history of women's involvement in art. They even have a timeline showing important moments for art, women, and feminism in Spain and around the world.
Exciting MAV Projects
Mujeres en las Artes Visuales works to make women artists more visible. They share information about their professional activities and artworks on their website.
Online Magazine: M-Arte Y cultura visual
Since 2012, MAV has published an online magazine called "M-Arte Y cultura visual." This magazine talks about art and visual culture, looking at it from a gender perspective. It helps people think about how gender affects art.
Women's Gaze Festival
One of MAV's most important projects is the "Women's Gaze Festival" (Festival Miradas de Mujeres). It started in 2012 with art shows in Madrid. The next year, it grew to include events all over Spain. This festival brings together art exhibitions and other activities that focus on women and gender issues. It's a place for thinking, talking, and creating new art.
Women's Views Biennial
Growing from the "Women's Gaze Festival," MAV organized the Women's Views Biennial from March to December 2016. During this time, many activities happened in museums, galleries, and art centers around the world. The goal was to highlight and celebrate women's presence and their artworks in contemporary art.
