About MAV
What MAV Does
The Association MAV works to help women take part more in culture. They also fight against unfair treatment, following laws that protect women.
MAV has something called an "Observatory." This is like a special team that collects facts and numbers. They use this information to show what the situation is like for women working in visual arts in Spain.
MAV knows that not many women are in top jobs in art and culture. So, they try to make sure there are more Spanish women in all parts of modern art. This includes artists, gallery owners, researchers, people who organize art shows (curators), professors, art managers, and museum directors. They also talk to Spanish institutions to make sure everyone has equal chances in all types of art.
MAV also works with other groups of women in culture and contemporary art. Together, they create projects to help more women get involved in the art system.
Learning and Research
MAV has a "Centre of Documentation." This is a place where they keep resources for studying and learning about good ways to work. It also helps create new projects about art, gender, and feminism.
The Centre of Documentation also keeps the history of women's involvement in the arts safe. They have made a timeline showing how art, women, and feminism have changed in Spain and around the world.
MAV's Cool Projects
MAV helps women artists get more attention. They share information about their work and projects on their website.
Since 2012, MAV has published an online magazine called "M-Arte Y cultura visual." This magazine talks about art and visual culture from a gender point of view.
Art Festivals
One of MAV's most important projects is the "Women's Gaze Festival" (Festival Miradas de Mujeres). It started in 2012 with art shows in Madrid. The next year, it happened all over Spain. This festival brings together art shows and other activities. These events encourage thinking, talking, and creating art about women and gender issues.
Because the "Women's Gaze Festival" was so successful, MAV organized the "Women's Views Biennial." This happened from March to December 2016. Many activities were held in museums, galleries, and art centers worldwide. The goal was to show and celebrate women's presence and their art in contemporary art.
Awards for Artists
The MAV's Prizes are a yearly event. Since 2010, these awards celebrate the achievements, contributions, and careers of women in the arts.
