A Little Bit of History
In 1881, a man named Andrea Sbarboro started two communities here: Asti and Chianti. These were part of his big project called the Italian Swiss Agricultural Colony. This colony was famous for making wine.
A special marker, called a plaque, is still there today. It reminds everyone about the colony. Their wines even won ten gold medals in international competitions! The colony is now a California Historical Landmark, number 621.
The Famous Asti Winery
Asti is home to the Asti Winery. It is located in a special wine-growing area called the Alexander Valley AVA. In the mid-1950s, Asti Winery became a very popular place to visit. It was the second-most visited spot in California, right after Disneyland!
Post Office and ZIP Code
Asti used to have its own post office. However, it closed down in 1978. The old ZIP Code for Asti was 95413. Today, the community gets its mail using Cloverdale's ZIP Code, which is 95425.
