Athalia is part of a larger area called the Huntington-Ashland Metropolitan Statistical Area. This is a group of cities and towns that are connected by jobs and daily life, even if they are in different states like West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio.
People say that Athalia got its name from the daughter of one of the very first settlers in the area.
