Louis-Athanase David (born June 24, 1882 – died January 26, 1953) was an important Canadian figure. He was a lawyer, a politician, and a businessman. He served as a cabinet minister in Quebec's provincial government. He also represented the area of Terrebonne. Later, he became a member of the Canadian Senate.

Early Life and Education
Athanase David was born in Montreal, Quebec. His father, Laurent-Olivier David, was also a well-known journalist, lawyer, and politician. Athanase David studied law at Université Laval. He became a lawyer in 1905, which means he was allowed to practice law.
A Career in Public Service
Athanase David started his law career in 1905. He was a partner in a law firm called Elliott & David. He joined the Liberal Party.
Serving in Quebec
In 1916, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec. This is like being a member of the provincial parliament. He represented the area of Terrebonne. He served in this role until 1936. He was also in charge of the Department of Education. He was elected again in 1939 and served until 1940.
Honors and Awards
Athanase David created the Prix Athanase-David in 1922. This is a special prize given for great writing. The government of France recognized his work too. They made him a Knight of the Legion of Honour in 1923. He was later promoted to Officer in 1925 and Commander in 1934.
A Love for Sports
David was a big fan of sports. He was the president of the Montreal Canadiens ice hockey team from 1930 to 1935. During his time as president, the team won the Stanley Cup three times! They won in 1924, 1930, and 1931. In 1928, he also helped bring back the Montreal Royals baseball team. He worked with others to build Delorimier Stadium for the team.
Joining the Senate
In February 1940, David left his role in the Quebec government. He was appointed as a Senator in the Parliament of Canada. He served as a Senator until he passed away in 1953.
Family Life
Athanase David was married to Antonia Nantel. She was very involved in the arts in Montreal. David helped her create the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in 1934. He also helped with the Montreal Festivals in 1936. Their son, Paul David, became a famous heart doctor. He also later became a Canadian Senator, just like his father. Athanase David's granddaughter is Françoise David.
