History of Atkinson
The first people settled in the area around Atkinson in 1875. The city itself was officially planned and laid out in 1880. This happened when the railroad lines were extended to reach this spot.
Atkinson was named after Colonel John Atkinson. He was one of the original owners of the land where the town was built.

Hay Days Celebration
Hay Days is the biggest celebration in Atkinson. It's a fun event that lasts for three or four days every August. This celebration started a long time ago in the early 1900s.
It began as a way to celebrate the end of the hay harvest season. Today, Hay Days includes many exciting activities. There are dances, a big parade, games in the park, and even duck races!
Education in Atkinson
Atkinson has one main high school for students. It is called West Holt High School. This school serves the local community.
