History of Atlantis
The story of Atlantis began with a ranch called Mulberry Farms. This ranch was owned by Philip D. Lewis, who was a state senator in Florida. His company, Mission Company, raised a type of cattle called Brahman cattle on the land.
In 1958, two real estate developers, Nathan Hunt and Paul Kintz, bought the land. They started building a special community with a golf course and a country club. This community was designed to be a gated community, meaning it has controlled entrances.
The residential area, along with a small part for shops, officially became a city on June 19, 1959. The first city council was chosen. James Kintz became the mayor, and Nathan Hunt was the vice mayor. Paul Kintz, Marjorie Hunt, and William Blakeslee were the council members.
