How Atwater Township Got Its Name

Atwater Township was named after Captain Caleb Atwater. He was a landowner in the Connecticut Western Reserve. This was a large area of land in Ohio that was once claimed by Connecticut. Atwater Township is the only township with this name in all of Ohio.
