Atwood is a small place in southern Franklin County, Alabama, in the United States. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
Atwood is located along Alabama Highway 172. You can find it between the towns of Hodges and Vina. It is also just south of the Bear Creek Reservoir, a large body of water.
A Look Back: The History of Atwood
Atwood got its name from a person named Abner Atwood. He was a doctor who lived in the area a long time ago.
In 1898, a post office was opened in Atwood. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. However, the post office later closed down.
