Exploring Atzara's Past
Atzara is found in an area called Barbagia in Sardinia. The first village was built around the year 1000. It grew near a spring called Bingia de giosso, which still exists today.
The old part of town is divided into several ancient areas. These include Su Fruscu, Lodine, Montiga e Josso, Montiga e Susu, Sa Cora Manna, Su Cuccuru de Santu Giorgi, and Tzùri. Atzara was once part of the Giudicato of Arborea. This was a special kind of independent state in Sardinia long ago.
