Sorgono (Sardinian: Sòrgono) is a small town, also called a comune (municipality), in the Sardinia region of Italy. It is part of the Province of Nuoro. Sorgono is located about 90 kilometers (56 miles) north of Cagliari and 35 kilometers (22 miles) southwest of Nuoro. In 2004, about 1,927 people lived there. The town covers an area of about 56.2 square kilometers (21.7 square miles).
Sorgono is surrounded by several other towns. These include Atzara, Austis, Belvì, Neoneli, Ortueri, Samugheo, Tiana, and Tonara.
The famous novelist D. H. Lawrence visited Sorgono in 1921. He wrote about the town and its people in Chapter 5 of his book, Sea and Sardinia.
People Who Lived in Sorgono
- Giovanni Melis Fois (1916-2009) was born in Sorgono.
- Francesca Barracciu, who was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), was also born here in 1966.
