Auburndale is a small village in Wood County, Wisconsin, United States. It is a quiet place with a friendly community. The population was 702 people at the 2020 census.

History of Auburndale

Auburndale was started in 1872. Two brothers, John and Robert Connor, founded the village. Robert Connor's son, William D. Connor, later became the Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin.

There are two ideas about how Auburndale got its name. One story says it was named after the auburn (reddish-brown) hair of the Connor children. Another idea is that the name came from a town called Auburndale, Massachusetts.

Auburndale is also home to WLBL (AM). This is one of the oldest radio stations in the entire United States. It began broadcasting way back in 1923! WLBL was the second station in the Wisconsin Public Radio Network. It helped share programs from WHA (AM) in Madison with listeners in northern Wisconsin.
