Auckland County is a special way that land is divided in New South Wales, Australia. It's one of 141 such divisions. Think of it like a very old-fashioned way of mapping out areas.
This county is located in the far south-east of New South Wales. It shares a border with Victoria to the south. To the north, its boundary is the Brogo River. Important towns like Bega, Eden, and Merimbula are all found within Auckland County.
The county was named after George Eden. He was known as the First Earl of Auckland and lived from 1784 to 1849. It's interesting that the county is on the same line of latitude as the city of Auckland, New Zealand. That city was also named after George Eden! In 1852, Auckland County covered a huge area of 1,536,000 acres (6,220 km2). People at the time described it as a place with tall mountains and rich, fertile plains.
What are Parishes?
Within Auckland County, the land is further divided into smaller areas called parishes. These are like smaller local districts. Each parish has its own name and location. They help to identify specific places within the larger county area.
