Augustus Taylor Rowe (August 2, 1920 – July 20, 2013) was a Canadian physician and politician. He was a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly for Carbonear from 1971 to 1975. He also served as the province's Minister of Health from 1972 to 1975. This role was part of the cabinet led by Premier Frank Moores.

Early Life and Education
Augustus Rowe was born on August 2, 1920. His hometown was Heart's Content. At that time, it was part of the Dominion of Newfoundland. This area is now known as Newfoundland and Labrador.
During World War II, he joined the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. After the war, he studied medicine. He attended St Mary's Hospital Medical School in London. This school was part of the University of London.
Becoming a Doctor
In 1954, Dr. Rowe returned to Newfoundland. He settled in Carbonear. There, he started his career as a general practitioner. This means he was a family doctor.
Founding Carbonear Community Hospital
In 1957, Dr. Rowe started Carbonear's first hospital. It was called Carbonear Community Hospital. He worked hard to raise money for it. About $37,000 Canadian dollars was collected.
This new hospital was very important for the area. Before it opened, patients had to travel far. They went to St. John's or Old Perlican for hospital care. Dr. Rowe was the director of the hospital. He led it from 1957 until October 1971. He left this role when he was elected to the House of Assembly.
Political Career
In October 1971, Dr. Rowe entered politics. He was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly. He represented the area of Carbonear. He was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Serving as Health Minister
Dr. Rowe was re-elected in 1972. In January 1972, he became the provincial Health Minister. He served in this important role until 1975. As Health Minister, he was part of Premier Frank Moores's government.
Later Career and Legacy
In 1975, Dr. Rowe left politics. He decided to focus on family medicine again. He later joined Memorial University of Newfoundland. From 1978 to 1985, he was the chairman of Family Medicine there.
The university created a special honor for him. It is called the Gus Rowe Teaching Award. This award is given by the Faculty of Medicine. It celebrates his contributions to teaching.
Retirement and Passing
Dr. Rowe retired from the university in 1985. He moved to Toronto with his wife, Beatrice. He passed away in Toronto on July 20, 2013. He was 92 years old. He was survived by his wife, Beatrice, and their two children, David and Jane. He also had two grandchildren.
