Aurum Geyser is a cool geyser found in Yellowstone National Park. It's located in the Upper Geyser Basin, right on a spot called Geyser Hill. A geyser is like a natural hot water fountain. It shoots hot water and steam into the air. Aurum Geyser is a popular sight for visitors to the park.

All About Aurum Geyser

Aurum Geyser is a special kind of hot spring. It is a cone geyser. This means it has a cone-shaped mound built up around its opening. This mound is made from minerals left behind by the hot water.

Where is Aurum Geyser?

Aurum Geyser is in the famous Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone is mostly in Wyoming, USA. The geyser is part of the Upper Geyser Basin. This area has many amazing geysers and hot springs. It's a very active geothermal spot.

How Aurum Geyser Works

Aurum Geyser can be a bit tricky to predict. Sometimes it erupts very regularly. Other times, its eruptions are quite random. Scientists have a theory about why this happens. They think its activity is linked to how wet the nearby meadow is.

  • When the meadow is wet, Aurum Geyser erupts more often. There are usually 3 to 4 hours between its eruptions.
  • When the meadow dries out, especially in late summer, the geyser becomes less predictable. The time between eruptions can stretch from 4 to 7 hours.

Aurum Geyser also takes part in something called the "Geyser Hill wave." This means its eruption times change in a regular pattern over a week. It might erupt more or less often at certain times.

Watching an Eruption

When Aurum Geyser erupts, it's quite a show!

  • Eruptions usually last for about 90 seconds.
  • The water can shoot up from 15 feet (4.6 meters) to 25 feet (7.6 meters) high.
  • Before a big eruption, you might see bubbling in two smaller vents nearby. This is a sign that the main show is about to start!
  • Sometimes, after the main eruption, there's a smaller second eruption. This happens about 5 to 10 minutes later.
